5 Tips for Dealing with COVID-19 Anxiety
Change in routine is overwhelming. Pair that with a global health crisis and chaos ensues. We want to help you take just a moment to ground yourself and create a NEW routine that helps reduce anxiety, so your "wise brain" can come online and help you make the best choices for you and your family.
You Can Find Confidence and Control
1. Follow all safety guidelines to help you feel prepared and confident in your ability to stay safe. That means washing your hands, social distancing, and reminding yourself that though it FEELS out of control, there ARE things you can control right now to keep you and your family healthy.
Stay Grounded and Focused on the Present
2. Challenging "worst-case-scenario" thinking can help you slow down and recognize the actual tasks you can do, right in front of you, to stay healthy and safe. When you notice your mind going down a dark hole, simply bring it back to the present moment with a grounding, centering deep breath and ask yourself, "what is one wise step I can take, right now, to keep me and my family safe?"
Physical Activity is Key
3. Exercise! You may not be able to go to the gym, but you can still do a modified exercise routine at home or outside. Make this a priority, as it can help you get rid of excess energy that anxiety brings with it. Exercise can also help you feel strong and confident.
Take in the Natural World Around You
4. Go outside and breathe in some fresh air! Social distancing doesn't ban you from being outside, so go ahead and take a break, take a walk, and get some sun. Fresh air not only (literally) refreshes us, it also helps us remember life is still going on, this is just a season, and we can get through it, no matter what.
Seek Healthy Online Resources
5. See your therapist online with Telehealth Counseling. Many mental health providers are able to provide counseling using confidential telehealth platforms. Reach out to one of our counselors at Cypress Counseling Group to get started with counseling during this anxiety provoking time!
