Stephanie Grissom, MA, LPC-MHSP
Stephanie received her BS in Psychology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, followed by her MA in Clinical Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University. Stephanie became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2007. She has extensive experience working with children and families, serving as a director of community-based programs for more than a decade. She is trained in Multi Systemic Therapy (MST), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and most recently began training in the Healing Our Core Issues (HOCI) model.
Stephanie’s primary focus is helping on the needs of women, particularly professional women and women in transition from working to staying home, staying home to working and retirement. She knows firsthand the stresses and demands of being a professional woman, wife and mother and how maintaining balance is so important. In addition to helping women, Stephanie enjoys working with couples as they prepare for marriage or even in that first year of marriage. Being in a relationship is hard and starting off with the right tools and goals is important. Stephanie also provides supervision for other counselors.
For clinical supervision, rates will be similar to counseling sessions and determined based on the size of the group.
From Stephanie:
In third grade I recognized that helping others through life’s challenges was something I wanted to do as an adult. After graduating high school, I began volunteering and working in the field and I have continued to do so over the last 30+ years. Knowing I have had a hand in helping countless lives through direct counseling, consulting other counselors, career counseling and coaching with others brings me so much joy.
I have been married since 2001 and have two beautiful children. Just like any other couple, we have had bumps in the road, but have surrounded ourselves with a supportive circle of family and friends. In our free time, my family spends weekends visiting with our son if he is home from college or rooting on our daughter’s travel soccer team. We love all things sports related, especially cheering on our Nashville Predators. When we want to relax as a family, we love travel and if we are really lucky we love to go camping.
Though I am now happily married, I have also experienced the pain of divorce. By walking through the issues that lead to divorce with my own therapist, I was able to see that I am worthy of love, and that love and being attached to someone is a good thing we should all experience. It is, after all, what we were designed for in this life.
Over the years, I have watched those around me struggle with the everyday life of being a couple. Those struggles include parenting, communication, making decisions that impact the entire family, etc. Through my work with children and families I have learned that if the primary unit is not working together, then the entire family is affected. Because of this, I feel very passionate about helping couples start out on the right foot. I also find joy in working with women and helping them navigate through their life and their own relationships. Please email me or call me and let’s set up a time to meet.
